This Code of Conduct applies to all students at Swedish International School (SIS), on the school premises, at activities arranged by the school or its partners, on the way to and from such activities, and online where it concerns other students or staff. The school’s Terms and Conditions refer to this Code.
1. What we expect
Our eight values – Care, Collaboration, Positivity, Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Lifelong learning and Safety – describe how we treat each other at SIS. This Code describes what they mean in practice and what happens when they are not followed.
- Treat every student and member of staff with respect. No one is excluded, ridiculed, threatened or touched against their will. We speak up against teasing, exclusion and abuse – also online.
- Arrive on time, attend lessons and activities, and follow instructions from staff.
- Take care of the school’s premises, materials and equipment, and of other people’s belongings.
- Use phones, computers and social media responsibly and in a way that supports learning. Photos or recordings of other students or staff are not taken or shared without their consent.
- Tell a member of staff if you or someone else is being treated badly. Every student knows which adults to turn to.
2. Behaviour that leads to a warning
The following normally leads to a conversation with the student and a written notice to the guardian. If it is repeated after the guardian has been informed in writing, the school may terminate the agreement.
- Repeated disruption of lessons or disregard of staff instructions.
- Disrespectful language towards students or staff.
- Damage to or misuse of school property or other people’s belongings.
- Repeated unexcused absence or lateness.
- Misuse of phones or devices during school time.
3. Behaviour that leads to immediate suspension
The following is serious misconduct. A single incident is sufficient. The student is suspended immediately and the school may terminate the agreement with immediate effect, without a prior warning, in accordance with the Terms and Conditions.
- Physical, sexual or otherwise intimate contact with another student or with staff against their will or of a sexual nature.
- Violence, threats or intimidation, including online.
- Serious or repeated harassment or bullying, including online, and sharing of images or messages intended to humiliate.
- Possession or use of weapons, drugs or alcohol.
- Any conduct that, in the school’s reasonable assessment, endangers the safety, integrity or well-being of other students or staff.
4. How the school acts
- Staff document what has happened: date, what occurred, who was involved and who has been informed.
- The guardian is informed of a suspension and its reason without delay, and is offered a meeting within five (5) school days.
- The school confirms its decision in writing. The safety of other students always takes precedence.
- Where required by Spanish child protection legislation, the school involves the relevant public authorities.
- In case of termination for serious misconduct, fees for the current term remain payable in full and no refund is made, except where required by law.
5. Guardians
Guardians are expected to support the school’s rules, to respond to the school’s contact, and to attend meetings when asked. Concerns about another student or a member of staff are raised with the school, not with the student or family concerned.
