Preschool class
The preschool class is a gentle, secure bridge between preschool and school. Play and purposeful learning meet in small groups, with the Swedish curriculum as the foundation.
What is the preschool class?
The preschool class (förskoleklass) is the first step of the Swedish school system and a distinct part of the Swedish curriculum. In Sweden it is compulsory from the autumn term of the year a child turns 6, and at our school the class follows the same Swedish curriculum. That keeps your child in step with schooling in Sweden if the family moves back, and provides a clear bridge into Year 1 of primary school.
In the preschool class, play and purposeful learning meet. The children work with letters, numbers, shapes and cooperation – always with play as the foundation and at a pace that suits their age.
A gentle transition from preschool
Children already attending our preschool recognise the premises, routines and educators. The move into the preschool class is therefore gentle: the children gradually join the school's daily life with circle time, tasks and breaks alongside the older pupils, without leaving the playful way of working behind.
Languages in everyday life
Swedish is the base of the teaching, while Spanish and English are a natural part of every day through songs, games and conversation. For children growing up in Spain this provides a secure foundation in Swedish – and an early, playful introduction to Spanish and English.
The day in the preschool class
The day has a clear structure with circle time, work in small groups, breaks, lunch and time for free play. The preschool class follows the school's school year dates and is part of the school community, with access to the schoolyard and the school's meals.
Continuing to primary school
After the preschool class, children move straight on to our primary school and Year 1, in the same premises and with the same approach. The continuity means the transition between stages rarely feels like an interruption.
